Charity Benefit 2008 BOYA CHARITY REQUEST CRITERIA |
The Association of Commercial Real Estate (“ACRE”) Board of Directors, in consultation with the ACRE Charity Benefit Broker of the Year Awards (“BOYA”) Committee, will choose one charity to benefit from the annual BOYA event to be held at the Sacramento Convention Center in the first calendar quarter of 2010. At the time ACRE chooses the charity to benefit from the BOYA event to be held in the first quarter of 2010, ACRE may determine that such charity or one or more other charities will be the benefiting charity(ies) for an additional one or two years, up to a total of two or three consecutive annual BOYA events beginning with the BOYA event to be held in early 2010. Although not part of the stated criteria in the past, the charities that have benefited from all prior BOYA events have been those that are focused on serving the needs of children. It is likely that children's charities will continue to be designated for future BOYA events. Typically, the BOYA event financially benefits the charity in the following two ways: (i) a portion of the proceeds raised by ACRE at the BOYA event are donated to the designated charity, and (ii) funds are raised through voluntary direct contributions of those who are present at the BOYA event. In recent years the annual BOYA events have collectively raised in excess of $1.7 million for charity. The total amount raised for local charities over the entire 17 annual BOYA events exceeds $2.5 million. Those charities that are interested in being chosen must submit a request to the BOYA Charity Subcommittee by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2008, to the attention of Gordon J. Duff, at the following address:
BOYA Charity Subcommittee In the event that the BOYA Committee is not satisfied with any of the requests it receives, it reserves the right to extend the deadline to allow one or more charities to submit new request(s) with appropriate additional information. The BOYA Charity Subcommittee may decide to have one or more of the applicants make presentations to the BOYA Committee and the ACRE Board during the last two weeks of October and the first week of November 2008. The charity that is ultimately chosen by the ACRE Board will be asked to send appropriate representatives to several planning sessions during late 2008 and early 2009 and to the BOYA event held in early 2009. Such attendance is for the purpose of familiarizing the charity with the planning process for the BOYA event and with the BOYA event, itself. This will assist the charity and the BOYA Committee with planning for the 2010 BOYA event. While ACRE reserves the right to choose (in its sole discretion) the charity that will benefit from the BOYA event (and whether or not the commitment will be for one, two or three years), each charity's request should be of sufficient detail to enable the BOYA Committee and the ACRE Board to make an informed decision. Accordingly, a request should include, without limitation, the following information: 1. Describe the charity, including (without limitation) its:
2. How would the funds raised through the BOYA event be used? 3.Will the charity have a mechanism or otherwise provide support to maximize the funds raised through the BOYA event? For example, will there be a person or foundation that will match the contributions raised through the BOYA event? (The four most recent charities, Make-a-Wish, the Sacramento Children's Home, Sierra Adoption Services and Stanford Home for Children, obtained matching contributors from outside of the ACRE membership during a majority of the last eight BOYA events.) Will the charity provide a person or persons (such as a staff person or charity volunteer) who will (i) join the BOYA Committee and assist in producing the BOYA event and/or (ii) assist in obtaining commitments prior to the BOYA event for voluntary contributions to be made at the event? 4. How will the charity benefit BOYA and ACRE? For example, will it promote ACRE and BOYA at other events of the charity during the year? Will it honor ACRE, BOYA and those who donate at the BOYA event with a local newspaper advertisement (in the Sacramento Business Journal, for instance) after the event? Will the charity provide press releases leading up to and after the BOYA event for the purpose of promoting the relationship of ACRE and the BOYA event with the charity? Will the charity name a building or room funded by the BOYA event in honor of ACRE and BOYA? (In 2004, the Sacramento Children's Home named a new building after ACRE in recognition of the contributions raised at the BOYA event that year for the construction of such building.) |
